NAPUS FCU is joining the move to a paperless check system. Check 21, or the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act, took effect in 2004. Under this law, banks are allowed to replace paper checks with digital copies of the originals. Check 21 was intended to eliminate the time-consuming process of having to transport deposited checks across the country to an originating bank for clearance.

What does this mean to you? NAPUS FCU will create digital copies of the front and back of your checks and electronically transmit those copies through the Federal Reserve. This means that checks can clear in hours instead of days. NAPUS FCU will begin using Check 21 May 19th. If you have any questions regarding Check 21, please contact us at 1-800-336-0284.
